Chief Daniel McMahon is a 20-year veteran of the White Plains Police Department. As Chief he oversees the management of uniform services, all investigative units, personnel and information systems.
McMahon was promoted to Chief of Police on January 26, 2026, by Public Safety Commissioner Wade Hardy, advancing directly from his position as Captain and Commanding Officer of the Special Operations Division.
As Captain, Chief McMahon led the Special Operations Division, which encompasses the Emergency Services Unit (ESU), Special Response Team (SRT), K-9 Unit, Traffic Unit, and Training Unit.
Prior to his promotion to Captain, Chief McMahon built a diverse operational and supervisory background. He began his career as a Patrol Officer and later served as a Field Training Officer and member of the Special Response Team. He was assigned to the Neighborhood Conditions Unit in 2013 and the Emergency Services Unit in 2014. In October 2015, he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Patrol Division, and in January 2017 transferred to Special Operations as Sergeant of the Neighborhood Conditions Unit. He was promoted to Lieutenant in December 2018 and served as the Executive Officer of the Special Operations Division, gaining broad leadership and administrative experience prior to his promotion to Captain in July 2021.
