The annual “Battle of the Badges” charity hockey game brought energy, excitement, and community pride to the ice on April 11, as the White Plains Police Department “Finest” faced off against the White Plains Fire Department “Bravest” at the iconic Playland Ice Casino.

In a hard-fought and highly competitive matchup, the Bravest claimed victory with a 5–3 win, capping off an afternoon filled with fast-paced action and spirited camaraderie.

Both teams showcased determination and skill, drawing cheers from a packed crowd of families, friends, and supporters.

Beyond the scoreboard, the true impact of the event was felt in its mission. Proceeds from the game benefit the Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley, helping to support families with children receiving care at the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, a member of WMCHealth. Funds raised contribute directly to easing the burden on families facing some of life’s most difficult moments.

Public Safety Commissioner Wade Hardy praised the event and those who made it possible:

“I wanted to express how truly impressed I was with the Battle of the Badges hockey event. From the energizing buildup to the electric game itself, the entire atmosphere was fun, exciting, and a credit to our city.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who played a role in organizing and executing this day. It was truly special to see our active and retired members, families, and friends come together to enjoy the moment.

Congratulations to the Firefighters on their victory this year! While the competition was fierce, everyone wins because the game was played for such a great cause.

Thank you all for representing this city and this agency so well. I look forward to many more moments like this in the future.”

Local outlet Metro Sports Mag echoed the sentiment, noting:

“These heroic first responders showed their speed, strength, focus and courage on the ice — just as they do when protecting us.”

The White Plains Department of Public Safety extended its appreciation to all who attended and supported the event, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in initiatives like this. With another successful year in the books, anticipation is already building for next year’s showdown—where rivalry meets purpose, and everyone plays for something bigger than the game.
