WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — September 2, 2026 — The City of White Plains Department of Public Safety reports the arrest of 32-year-old Guerlande Atila of White Plains in connection with a child abandonment incident.
Ms. Atila has been charged and arraigned on the following:
- Abandonment of a Child (NYS Penal Law 260.00, Class E felony)
“There is no happy conclusion to this story,” said Commissioner Wade Hardy. “A family is deeply traumatized by such an event, and our hearts go out to the child. We hope that he may grow and prosper in life and be raised by a loving, caring family.”
The White Plains Department of Public Safety wants to recognize the great work of our police officers, detectives, EMS, and the Westchester County and Harrison Police Departments for their dedicated service in this investigation. We also want to thank the Special Prosecution Division of the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance during this investigation.
