The White Plains Police Department and The Thomas H. Slater Center partnered together to conduct a four-week summer program called the Police Empowering Youth program. During this initiative police officers worked with local youth to build positive relationships.
The program focused on developing essential skills through classroom discussions and community outings. Participants learned about leadership, stress management, peer pressure, teamwork, and how to positively contribute to their communities.
The program concluded with a community project where participants cleaned up an area outside the Thomas H. Slater Center and planted flowers to beautify the space.
We extend a special thanks to the City of White Plains Planning Department Youth Climate Action Fund and Thomas H. Slater Center staff: Ms. Myrlene, Ms. Heather, Ms. Maria and Ms. Naima for their support. To all the participants, thank you for your hard work and dedication. We also want to recognize our dedicated police officers who assisted in the program: PO Lynch, SRO McCormack, SRO Albert, and SRO Deane.
