Police Officer Laura Dalava
White Plains Police Officer Laura Dalava was recognized for her exceptional service and dedication to the community during a special ceremony hosted by the New York Ann Sullivan – White Plains Lions Club on June 21.
Officer Dalava received the organization’s prestigious Outstanding Service Award in recognition of her commitment to public safety and her positive impact on the residents of White Plains. In addition to the Lions Club honor, she was presented with a proclamation from White Plains Mayor Justin C. Brasch, officially declaring June 21 as “Police Officer Laura Dalava Day” in the City of White Plains.
Westchester County Executive Kenneth W. Jenkins also recognized Officer Dalava’s contributions by bestowing upon her the title of “Outstanding Citizen of Westchester,” one of the county’s highest forms of public recognition for community service and civic leadership.
As part of the ceremony, Officer Dalava was named an honorary member of the New York Ann Sullivan – White Plains Lions Club, further recognizing her longstanding commitment to serving others both in and out of uniform.
Officer Dalava joined the White Plains Police Department in July 2023 and has quickly distinguished herself through her professionalism, work ethic, and dedication to the community. During her career, she has served as both a communications officer and a field training officer in the Patrol Division. She is currently assigned to the Neighborhood Initiatives Unit, where she works closely with residents while patrolling neighborhoods on foot and by vehicle.
Fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, Officer Dalava brings a unique ability to connect with the diverse communities she serves. Prior to joining the department, she earned a degree in Computer Science while living in Brazil.
Her career has already been marked by notable accomplishments. In 2024, she received the department’s Meritorious Duty Award for her role in apprehending a suspect during an attempted murder investigation. Earlier this year, Officer Dalava was involved in two separate arrests that resulted in the seizure of three loaded firearms and significant quantities of narcotics from the streets of White Plains.
Beyond her enforcement efforts, Officer Dalava has earned praise for her compassion and commitment to community engagement. She has been commended for assisting a stranded motorist, actively participating in the department’s Youth Police Initiative, and consistently demonstrating professionalism in her daily interactions with the public.
The recognition bestowed upon Officer Dalava by local and county leaders reflects not only her accomplishments as a police officer, but also her dedication to improving the quality of life for the residents she serves.
